Wetherill Road, Muswell Hill, N.10 - The Unfortunate Policeman (R.W. Paul 1905)

The shopping street along which the unfortunate policeman chases his rival in love appears again the next year in Is Spiritualism a Fraud?, as a different policeman parades a fraudulent medium past shoppers and shopkeepers:

There were just six businesses in this parade: fishmonger, newsagent, butcher, baker, fruiterer and, in the corner, a dairy. The dairy premises (which ten years ago belonged to my uncle Johnnie) are still there, though demolition is threatened:

The other five have all become fully residential, though when my auntie Angela lived on Weatherill Road in the seventies there were still shops here:
